Ingersoll Rand unveils cordless impact wrench
Ingersoll Rand has released the new W7150 0.5 in. high-torque cordless Impactool.
“The W7150 represents the greatest advance in cordless technology to date,” says Nate Schmid, marketing manager for vehicle services with Ingersoll Rand. “Not only does it have all the power, ergonomics and durability of a best-in-class Ingersoll Rand tool — it’s the only cordless tool in the world that can perform shoulder-to-shoulder with our best-in-class 2135TiMAX 0.5 in. air impact. No other cordless 0.5 in. impact on the market can even come close. We think that this tool is going to change the way technicians think about cordless technology.”
Weighing 6.8 lbs. and measuring 9.4 in. from tip to tail, Ingersoll Rand says the W7150 features a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio; offering 780 ft.-lb. reverse torque, and 1100 ft.-lb torque. The W7150 also features a completely re-engineered high-power rare earth magnet motor, a steel-lined aluminum hammer case and a chemical resistant, patent-pending metal reinforced housing for maximum durability, the company says.
The cordless impact also is said to feature a robust, all-metal drive train and hammer mechanism optimized for maximum power and efficiency, and a variable speed switch with electronic brake for optimized control.
According to Ingersoll Rand, the source of the W7150’s power comes from the new IQV20 series battery platform. Powered by advanced lithium-ion technology, this new battery platform features a high-powered lithium-ion battery “power plant” that delivers high-charge capacity and low internal impedance for maximum power delivery, the company says.
The platform also features an intelligent battery management system that provides power-level and flow-rate control from the battery to the switch to the motor, and a mountable smart charging station with auxiliary USB port. Ingersoll Rand says the W7150 is the first addition to the new IQV20 Series of 20V lithium-ion cordless tools and will be available beginning in January 2012.

Jacobs Vehicle Systems develops “Bridge Brake” technology
Jacobs Vehicle Systems has developed a new integrated engine braking technology. This technology integrates the functionality of a standard compression release brake into the footprint of a valve bridge, the company says.
In response to the global engine suppliers’ drive to minimize weight and space impact on the vehicle, Jacobs says its engineers continue to focus on new ways of integrating the braking function into the valve train. The Bridge Brake represents the most recent extension of this effort. Jacobs says this new lightweight design provides excellent retarding performance with zero valve train height increase. The Bridge Brake also is suited for small-displacement engines and other applications where packaging space is at a premium, Jacobs says.
This braking system, which was first launched on the Hyundai 10L engine, replaces the standard exhaust valve bridge with a braking valve bridge. Based on Jacobs’ Lost Motion know-how, the company says traditional valve train componentry is maintained, while allowing new complex valve motions to be achieved.
Kenworth Sales Co. opens new parts and service facility in Naples, Utah
Kenworth Sales Co. recently celebrated the opening of its newest location, a 10,000-square-foot parts and service facility near U.S. Route 40, with a grand opening that drew more than 300 people. The grand opening, which included a trade show and barbecue, was held over two days.
The new facility is located east of Vernal, Utah, on more than 5 acres at 5259 S. 5400 E. in Naples. The dealership features six service bays with one bay dedicated to providing Kenworth PremierCare Express Lube services. A 750-square-foot parts retail display area complements a 3,500-square-foot parts warehouse. The new location also offers parts delivery service and a driver lounge.
“Continued growth in oil and gas production and exploration in the nearby South Ouray and the Res Wash fields has created a great need for this new parts and service facility,” says Kip Ekker, general manager of the Vernal location. “We’re pleased to respond to that need with this new store located in the remote northeastern corner of Utah, 30 miles west of the Colorado border.”
Ekker says the new location will allow the company to provide customers immediate access to TRP Aftermarket Parts and five factory-trained service technicians. “Before we opened here, customers had to drive two hours south to our facility in Price, Utah, or three hours west to our West Valley City location in the Salt Lake City area,” he says.
Kenworth Sales Co.-Vernal is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The phone number is 435-789-1430. The service manager is Colby Shaw, and the parts manager is Dane Christiansen.
RigDig helps dealers comply with California law
California has passed the nation’s first law (Assembly Bill 1215) requiring that used vehicle dealers, including heavy-duty truck dealers, post a red warning label on vehicles flagged in a federal database as junk, salvage, total loss or title branded.
Beginning July 1, 2012, every California-licensed motor vehicle dealer is required to check the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) prior to offering vehicles, including heavy-duty trucks, for sale. Junk yards, salvage yards, auto recyclers, insurance carriers and state motor vehicle departments are required to report vital information about vehicles to NMVTIS, a new federally-mandated vehicle history database maintained by the U.S. Department of Justice.
To comply with this new law, dealers can access vehicle history reports through an authorized NMVTIS Consumer Access Provider, such as RigDig Truck History Reports for heavy-duty truck dealers. If the report returns NMVTIS-related junk, salvage, total loss or title brand information, the dealer will be required to affix a 4 in. x 5 in. red warning sticker in the window of the vehicle. Additionally dealers must provide a copy of the report to the purchaser when requested.
Thanks to the launch of RigDig Truck History Reports in August, compliance with the new law will be easy for California heavy-duty truck dealers, the company says. In addition to partnering with the Department of Justice to integrate NMVTIS information, RigDig says its Truck History Reports also include important information from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, vehicle specification information from RigDig Business Intelligence, and Uniform Commercial Code-related lien and termination information from Equipment Data Associates.
“RigDig launched at just the right time for California commercial truck dealers. RigDig is able to help commercial truck dealers begin checking their existing inventory, possible trade-in vehicles and auction vehicles right now. This will help dealers avoid surprises arising from this new law come July 1,” says James Vogel, general manager of RigDig.
“RigDig Truck History Reports mesh a variety of data sources, including NMVTIS junk and salvage vehicles, total loss insurance claims, title and odometer brands, with other sources of information for accidents, inspections, ownership, cargo hauled and CSA scores. RigDig gives commercial truck dealers an easy-to-use report that not only helps them comply with Bill AB 1215 but also provides them with vital information to make informed purchase decisions.”
RigDig Truck History Reports are available at www.rigdig.com.
NMVTIS is a national, federally-mandated vehicle history database maintained by the United States Department of Justice to ensure that states, law enforcement agencies and consumers have access to vehicle titling, branding and other information that enables them to verify the accuracy and legality of motor vehicle titles before transfer or registration of the vehicle occurs, RigDig says.
California AB 1215 mandates all dealers using the California Electronic Titling (ELT) system use an NMVTIS-based vehicle history report, obtained from an authorized access provider. The law also provides for an increase in the maximum documentation fees that dealers can charge consumers. Dealers can now charge up to $80 per new or used purchase/leased vehicle, up from $45 for vehicle purchase transactions and $55 for lease transactions.
