Pressure Systems International (PSI) has released its October 2018 Commercial Fleet Tire Digest on “Tire Surveys/Inspections: What Can I Learn?”
Tire surveys are important for getting maximum mileage out of tires and improving fuel economy. A thorough survey should include tires running on vehicles and those sitting in the scrap pile. Regular inspections, whether by drivers or technicians, are vital to identifying tire and vehicle issues, but whoever is doing the inspections must have a basic understanding of tread wear, according to PSI.
“For example, tires with one-sided wear, heavy wear on one shoulder or feather wear across the tread surface are typically related to vehicle alignment issues,” the report states. Another common type of irregular wear is when one steer tire has outside shoulder wear and the opposite steer tire has inside shoulder wear. This typically is caused by misalignment of the drive axles.
The digest explains additional examples of irregular tire wear and the likely reasons for them. To read the entirety of this month’s report, CLICK HERE.
