DENSO develops a new diesel common rail system

DENSO announced this week that it has developed a new diesel common rail fuel injection system with what it claims is “the world’s highest injection pressure of 2,500 bar.”

Based on its research when compared to the company’s previous generation system, DENSO says the new system can increase fuel efficiency up to 3 percent while also reducing particulate matter by up to 50 percent and nitrogen oxides by up to 8 percent.

To generate a higher fuel injection pressure, DENSO says it redesigned components and used new materials. The changes allowed the fuel to atomize into finer droplets, which the company says improved fuel ignition and combustion efficiency, resulting in increased fuel economy and cleaner exhaust emissions.

DENSO says it is also is working to develop and commercialize a 3,000 bar diesel common rail system.
