Marmon-Herrington has released Safe Shift, its third-generation all-wheel drive protection system.
Safe Shift is a proprietary electronic control system that prevents damage to axle, driveline, and transfer case components commonly caused by improper operation. Marmon-Herrington says new features include an easier to use LCD driver interface, simpler installation, PTO protection and the potential to run at faster baud rates for future system advancements.
Marmon-Herrington adds that Safe Shift protects against driveline damage by continuously monitoring vehicle conditions through the chassis CAN bus and preventing improper shifting by the operator. The new LCD user interface provides on-screen feedback and a visual understanding of proper all-wheel drive operation as a means of improving driver behavior. Proper operation ultimately provides fleets with increased uptime, avoidance of expensive repairs to drivetrain components and extended vehicle service life.
“By removing the possibility of accidental shifts or the consequences of an inexperienced operator, Safe Shift helps fleets protect their investment,” says Rick Blair, Marmon-Herrington OEM President. “Shift-on-the-fly failures are a known issue in the industry and are effectively eliminated by our Safe Shift system. We are proud to offer this innovative product and excited about the benefits it provides our customers.”
“As commercial trucks continue to evolve, the Marmon-Herrington Safe Shift has also evolved,” adds Nathan Webster, Marmon-Herrington engineering manager. “Safe Shift reinforces Marmon-Herrington’s commitment to being a leader in all-wheel drive solutions and exceeding customer expectations. This latest version represents a mature solution that includes the features and functionality that our customers have come to expect from Marmon-Herrington.”
Safe Shift is included as a standard option with all Marmon-Herrington AWD conversions. Marmon-Herrington will also offer Safe Shift as a factory option for all major truck manufacturers.
