Mark Johnson wins GenNext poker tourney

Mark Johnson from TruckPro, dba Arizona Brake & Clutch Supply LLC, outplayed and outlasted 68 other industry poker players to win the third annual GenNext Industry No-Limit Hold’Em Poker Showdown in Las Vegas last week.

Johnson was sponsored by Team Bendix. Team SKF, whose top players placed fourth and fifth overall, won the new team championship.

In only the second hand of heads-up play (last two players) against Meritor’s Ben Alexander, Johnson’s pocket 9’s held up against Alexander’s ace/queen combination, with no help from the board. The rest of the top five finalists were Tyler Hansen of Midwest Wheel, sponsored by Team Phillips; Cody Baum of A-1 Truck Parts, sponsored by Team SKF, and the 2016 champion Ricky Groover of SKF, sponsored by Team SKF.

This year’s team sponsors included Bendix, Datalliance, Donaldson, Dorman HD Solutions, Federal-Mogul Motorparts, Firestone Industrial Products, Grote, Kit Masters, MEI, Phillips Industries, SKF and Truck-Lite.

“Again, this year’s tournament was an excellent event for GenNext,” says GenNext Vice Chairman Nick Seidel with Action Truck Parts. “We host this tournament as both a fund-raiser and an awareness opportunity, supported by our member companies. This is one of our biggest events as we strive to offer opportunities to educate, mentor and recruit the next generation of industry leaders.”
