ZO Motors, the Japanese manufacturer of zero emissions commercial trucks, and ITD Industries, the Canadian-based commercial equipment manufacturer and truck distributor, have jointly announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will see the latter serve as the exclusive distributor of battery electric and fuel cell electric commercial trucks in the Great White North.

ZM Trucks, a subsidiary of ZO Motors, is one of North America’s latest zero-emissions commercial truck brands.

Canada has a goal of 100% zero-emission sales for new medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (MHDVs) by 2040. Prior to this, the Canadian federal government’s 2030 Emissions Reduction Plan has a target for 35% of all new sales of MHDVs to be zero-emission by 2030.

ZM Trucks says it aims to offer new and cost-efficient alternatives to operators, and Canada is a vital market. For its part, ITD Industries, one of North America’s largest commercial transportation equipment manufacturers, provides Canada’s largest fleets with access to zero-emissions equipment solutions. This includes, among other related services, charging and hydrogen fueling infrastructure and support services before and after ZM Trucks are deployed.

Both companies stated they are exploring a joint venture with KD Manufacturing to provide service to the Canadian market.

According to its website, ZO Motors “has achieved price parity with comparable diesel trucks, paving the way for small-to-large-sized companies to seamlessly transition from diesel to zero-emissions without compromise.”
