Overdrive, sister publication of TPS, has released its annual Highway Report Card, created through the exhaustive survey of American truckers to determine the worst roads, bridges, parking options, routes, metros and more of 2025.
Conducted each spring, Overdrive’s annual survey to readers asking for viewpoints on state Departments of Transportation and their stewardship of highway infrastructure. Respondents represented a cross section of Overdrive’s audience of small business truckers.
Indiana was the hardest hit state in this year’s survey, with I-70 across the state being named the nation’s worst highway and a substantial segment of readers claiming Indiana to be the worst driving state in the nation.

The state’s reputation among drivers is so poor one respondent noted, “Any road in Indiana could easily be named the worst. They are all bad and have been for years! If you want to break your truck, drive across Indiana.”
I-80 and I-65 in Indiana also ranked in the top ten worst routes among readers, as did I-10 and I-20 in Louisiana, making Indiana and Louisiana the only states to place two highways among the ten worst routes.
