Nearly half of respondents to a CDK survey say tariffs have reduced demand for trucks.

CDK released its State of the Heavy Truck Industry report on Friday.

Conducted before the turmoil in the Middle East, the report nevertheless uncovered other outside factors were influencing truck sales and service, including supply chain challenges and tariffs. Nearly half of dealers (44%) said tariffs have already reduced demand, for instance.

It also examined operational performance and pessimism over profits and productivity, improving staffing and retention, and what separates top performers. The survey showed truck dealers aren't sitting still; they're responding decisively with strategies to improve efficiency, productivity and profitability.

More than 150 participants answered CDK's survey. About a third of those were from dealerships with three to five rooftops and another quarter were even smaller at one to two rooftops. Six to rooftops and 16+ rooftops were tied at 18%. Most of those dealers (44%) sold 10-49 units per month, new and used.
