Behind the curtain with PSI

When Pressure Systems International (PSI) entered the commercial vehicle market more than 20 years ago, it also brought with it a new maintenance concept.

Maximizing tire life had been an important aspect of vehicle maintenance since trucks hit the road, but until PSI’s foray into the trucking market, no one was actively maintaining them while on the move.

With its then revolutionary automatic tire inflation system, PSI offered customers that option. PSI’s system would monitor tire pressure in real-time, and would offer the capability to add air to underinflated tires to ensure proper wear, minimize blowouts, flat tires and roadside breakdowns.

Now two decades later, the company continues to succeed focusing on those same principles.

With a warranty rate of less than one half of one percent, MTIS by PSI — the company joined forces with Meritor in marketing/distribution agreement in 1999 — is now in use in more than 42 countries. The system has 90 percent market share among automatic tire inflation systems in North America, and is being spec’d on nearly 40 percent of all new trailers built.

Also available, and popular, as a retrofit option, the MTIS by PSI continues to lead the market in the sector it introduced.
