Market moves: Trailer dealers expand through purchases

Mergers and acquisitions roundup

After one of the busiest transaction months in recent years in August, September saw very few purchases in the supplier, dealer and aftermarket spaces.

Trailer dealers were the most active in the month.

STS Trailer, Truck and Equipment acquired Truck & Trailer Sales & Leasing Corp. of Selinsgrove, Pa., on Sept. 6. "We could not be happier to continue the legacy of Harold & Shirley Terry that built Truck & Trailer Sales into the No. 1 MAC Trailer dealer in Pennsylvania," says Steven Jacobs, co-president and CEO of STS. "We look forward to continuing the relationships that the Truck & Trailer team has built with its customers over the past 43 years and adding additional value to all stakeholders through our combined resources and expertise."

A few days later the former Utility Trailer Sales Company of Georgia announced a rebrand as Southeast Utility Trailer following an acquisition that grew its footprint into three new states. The former Utility Trailer Sales Company originally operated additional locations in Gainesville, Ga., and Knoxville, Tenn. Southeast Utility Trailer is now able to serve Georgia, Eastern Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia after its purchase of C.R.T.S. Inc. Mark Beecher is president and Tammy Crowder will continue her role as vice president of human resources, the company says.

The last move of the month was in the aftermarket, where Inland Truck Parts & Service acquired Powertrain Driveline Express of Belgrade, Mont. The business will now operate out of Inland's already existing location in the region. "The Belgrade-Bozeman area is the fastest growing market in Montana and a great fit for Inland," says Greg Klein, president and CEO of Inland. "Adding this location will help us better serve our customers in Montana. Now, customers will get what they need faster and more efficiently."
