“I met with this group previously at the ATD convention on two occasions. I first met them six years ago,” says Treadway. “They mentioned at the last convention they wanted to visit one of my dealerships, so we made it happen.”
Kenworth Sales Company, which has been in business for 72 years, currently has 750 employees at 21 dealerships across Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
“Brazil is seeing their first major economic downturn since the early 2000s. They knew in conversations with me that we have experienced a few economic downturns over the years,” Treadway adds. “They wanted to know how to survive? They wanted to look at our facilities and also talk to our managers and ask probing questions about business cycles and strategy.”
The dealers from Brazil also visited Warner Freightliner in West Valley City, Utah, and Rush Truck Leasing in Salt Lake City.
Albert Gallegos, ATD/NADA director of international affairs, added that a growing number of dealer associations around the globe are seeking assistance from ATD to learn about best practices at U.S. truck dealerships.
“Brazil is currently facing political headwinds and the economic slowdown has depressed commercial truck sales in the country,” Gallegos says.
