Members from the China Commercial Vehicles Dealers Association (CCVDA) visited ATD headquarters in Tysons, Va., on March 27. The two groups discussed truck dealership operations, government regulations and association operations.

“CCVDA was recently established in 2015, so they are seeking to learn from ATD about best practices at U.S. truck dealerships and association operation experiences,” says Boyi Xu, ATD/NADA economist, who served as a translator. “Part of the discussion focused on the differences between the two markets, and the differences on how the dealerships are operating in China and the U.S.”

Zhong Weiping, secretary general of CCVDA, adds that most of the commercial vehicle (truck) dealerships in China rely on new truck sales for profit since many of the dealerships do not have service centers.

“We discussed key benchmarks at U.S. truck dealerships with a focus on service and parts operations,” Xu adds.

Other topics of discussion included the regulatory climate in China, CCVDA’s development plan for the future, and creating used truck value guidelines and appraisals.

On March 28, ATD Chairman Steven Parker hosted the CCVDA members at Baltimore Potomac Truck Centers in Linthicum, Md. The group participated in a detailed presentation on the dealership’s main operations, and inquired about best practices for trucks and parts inventory, warranty and services, and leasing.

CCVDA also visited the Mid-America Trucking Show and Paccar Technical Center.
