Rihm Kenworth in South St. Paul, Minn., recently hosted U.S. Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.) for a dealership tour and a ride in a new Kenworth T680 truck. The meeting included a discussion on federal policies impacting the trucking industry, specifically repeal of the federal excise tax (FET) levied on the sale of new heavy-duty trucks, American Truck Dealers (ATD) reports.

“Rep. Craig was well versed in the policies that impact truck sales and understands the detrimental effects of the FET, which discourages the sale of newer, safer and more environmentally-friendly trucks,” says Kari Rihm, president, Rihm Kenworth.

H.R. 2381, the “Modern, Clean and Safe Trucks Act of 2019,” is a bipartisan bill that would repeal the FET.

As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Rep. Craig plays a vital role in the reauthorization of the federal aid highway program, often referred to as the “highway bill,” which could include FET repeal, according to ATD.

“Rep. Craig understands the issues facing the truck retail industry and is a strong supporter of Minnesota’s trucking businesses. Our team at Rihm Kenworth was honored to host Rep. Craig to discuss the importance of repealing the FET,” Rihm says.
