Magnetic Induction Heating System
OTC, a business unit of SPX Corp., introduced the 6650 Magnetic Induction Heating System to help technicians remove metal parts that can’t be removed easily with flame or other radiant heat sources.
With an available power rating of 1500 watts, the system produces heat in seconds within metal objects, such as body panels, nuts, bolts and pinchweld areas behind glass, without heating non-metallic objects such as glass, paint or plastic, said the company. Potential safety risks to technicians, such as cuts from sharp metal and burns from torches and heated metal, are said to be reduced.

Swinging Gladhand
Phillips Industries introduced a low-profile, compact Singer Gladhand designed for intermodal fleets and those pulling piggyback trailers, said the company.
The gladhand follows the tractor to prevent accidental disconnects and kinking air lines. When the product is disconnected, it swings closed to a sealed position to prevent contaminants from entering the air system. The upper portion of the product rotates 180 degrees on a nylon glide ring, while the lower portion remains still, allowing the airline to remain immobile. The gladhand eliminates the use of hoses with swinger valves, said the company.

Adhesive Acrylic Tapes
M&C Specialties now offers its 3M VHB adhesive acrylic tapes for a variety of commercial vehicle applications. These conformable, double-coated and pressure sensitive acrylic foam tapes are available in two designs.
The thicker Commercial Vehicle Tape 4956F typically is used for panel-to-post attachment, while the thinner Tape 4941F is ideal for panel-to-panel attachment at an overlap seam. The company provides customized rolls and precision die-cutting and, when applicable, a spooling technique that decreases line stoppage during the change of tape rolls.

Heavy-Duty Relay
Roll-Rite added a heavy-duty relay to its new 10900 electric kit for tarp systems.
With silver alloy replacing copper contacts, the relay offers increased resistance to corrosion and exceeds the 30-amp rating required to run the company’s tarp systems, said the company.
Amp draw and voltage are inversely related-if one goes up, the other goes down. Since voltage determines the speed of the motor, drawing more amps always will slow down the speed. As speed decreases, an electric motor becomes less efficient, the company said.
Roll-Rite’s electric tarp system is designed to reach peak performance at a lower amp draw and without the need for high-amp wire, said the company.

Fuel-Free, Idle-Free Cab Cooling
Webasto developed the Non-Idling-Technology-Evaporative-Cooler (NiteCool) TCC-100 truck cabin cooler based on the principles of heat extraction through water evaporation.
The product draws warm air in from outside the cabin. Next, it circulates the air through a pre-cooling chamber and is further cooled when the warm air molecules try to evaporate water from the unit’s seven-gallon water tank. The evaporation process causes the remaining air molecules to become cooler. They then are circulated into the truck cabin to reduce the interior temperature.
According to the company, the system does not use any fuel and it produces zero emissions.

Caliper Disc Brake
Carlisle Industrial Brake And Friction developed a hydraulically actuated, single opposed piston, caliper disc brake for a variety of applications. Model PD 1473 is designed to produce medium torque ranges and requires the caliper and disc to be on fixed mountings.
Multiple calipers can be used on a single disc to proportionately increase the torque output. Flexible mounting alternatives are available to accommodate different vehicles and equipment types while the optional seal materials offer compatibility with all actuation fluids and temperatures.
Additionally, the brake is available with retracting springs and automatic adjusters for high-speed applications, said the company.
The brake is available in both a standard and an auto-adjust model.
