Delco Remy Revamps Alternator
Delco Remy introduced its new 24SI HP alternator, replacing the company’s popular 310 model. The 24SI HP is a brush-style alternator with a dual internal fan design that provides greater air circulation over the component’s electronics, allowing it to run at lower temperatures which improves the operating efficiency and durability of the unit, the company said.

The 24SI HP alternator, according to Delco Remy, has been designed to handle the heavier electrical loads common on today’s trucks and school busses. It produces 160 amps of output at road speeds and 100 amps at low engine idle speeds. Delco Remy said the improved design equates to fuel savings.

Cat Launches New Lift
Cat Lift Trucks launched its P17500-P36000 series diesel pneumatic tire lift trucks that are equipped with a new turbocharged engine, hydraulic fingertip control system and ergonomic styling. The series includes six different models with capacities ranging from 17,500 to 36,000 lbs.

According to the company, the turbocharged diesel engine has a common rail fuel delivery system that “assures even and high pressure fuel delivery to all six cylinders allowing for swift acceleration, low noise and reliable performance.”

Cat Lift Truck’s hydraulic fingertip control system allows operation with minimal hand movements, helping improve productivity and reduce driver fatigue.

The new series of lift trucks come with service intervals of up to 500 hours, the company said, and have a two-year, unlimited-hour warranty as well as a three-year, 6,000-hour powertrain warranty.

Professional Ratcheting Crimper Tool
A new heavy-duty ratcheting crimper tool from Phillips Industries is designed for use by professional service technicians and can accommodate 8 gauge through 22 gauge wire.

According to the company, the tool features a positive-lock mating mechanism to help ensure consistent uniform crimp termination and the release switch releases if the terminal or wire in inserted improperly. The tool also has a longer handle for better leverage.

Webb Vortex Brake Drum
Webb Wheel Products introduced its new Vortex brake drum, Part No. 76864, which measures 16-1⁄2 x 7 inches and weighs 100 lbs. The company said the drum is produced from standard gray iron metallurgy and is an alternative replacement choice for more expensive steel shelled or other lightweight drums used in rear axle and trailer applications.

Webb said the drum is designed with a reinforcing center band and ribs, resulting in a conventional gray iron brake drum that is lighter but maintains structural integrity and braking performance.

Half-scissor Lift Design
Stertil-Koni introduced its Skylift heavy-duty hydraulic lift that has a new half-scissor design. The company said Skylift has two independent, modular lifting platforms that “provide complete under-chassis operator access, while its vertical lifting orientation saves valuable working space.”

Additionally, the independent lift units can be repositioned to accommodate different axle widths. Skylift can be installed in flush-mounted or surface-mounted configurations and, according to the company, can be installed by two factory authorized technicians in a day and the lift can be relocated to other areas of the shop when needed.

Skylift’s design has two legs under both runways and can handle a maximum length of up to 45 feet. Multiple loading configurations provide lift up to 77,000 lbs. symmetrically and up to 55,000 lbs. asymmetrically.

Water, Wind Leak Detection Kit
Tracer Products introduced a new kit for detecting wind and water leaks around windshields and other entries. The company says its TP- 8648 LeakFinder Wind & Water Kit comes with a spray gun for applying fluorescent dye where a leak is suspected and a blue light LED flashlight for detecting the dye, as well as an 8 oz. bottle of dye, fluorescence-enhancing glasses and a carrying case. Low Voltage Disconnect Switch
Cole Hersee said its new low voltage disconnect (LVD) switch helps eliminate dead batteries by automatically disconnecting non-critical loads when the battery voltage falls below a predefined threshold. The ancillary equipment is automatically reactivated when battery voltage is restored.

Additionally, the company said the LVD switch provides over-current, short-circuit and over-temperature protections; is resistant to vibration and mechanical shock; and can withstand contamination from moisture, dust or salt spray.

The switch has a 200A at 12V DC rating, and comes with a manual override option to allow users to make or break the connection regardless of the battery voltage.

Rugged, Ultra-mobile Panasonic PC
Panasonic Computer Solutions Company unveiled the next generation of its Toughbook mobile computers, the Toughbook U1, designed for use in harsh environments, such as heavy-duty truck service shops.

Panasonic said the U1 is the first “rugged ultra mobile PC” equipped with the high-performance, low-power-consumption Intel Atom microprocessor. The full-feature computer incorporates “robust features” previously only available on the company’s full-size Toughbook models in a new, very portable design.

“Panasonic builds the new Toughbook U1, but our customers designed it,” said Kyp Walls, Panasonic’s director of product management. “The form and functionality is a direct result of more than two years of feedback we solicited from an array of government and commercial organizations seeking to address the needs of a broad range of mobile users.”

Among the features of the Toughbook U1 are: an LCD touchscreen; solid state drive; optional fingerprint security scanner; optional 1D and 2D barcode readers; optional two megapixel digital camera; long-life battery with dual hot-swappable bays; and wireless connectivity using WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G mobile broadband. It is compatible with full versions of both Windows XP and Vista operating systems.
