Wireless Scale for Mechanical Suspensions
TruckWeight Inc. has adapted its Smart Scale wireless onboard scale technology for trucks, tractors and trailers equipped with mechanical spring suspensions. The company says the new version is ideal for applications such as bulk distribution, agriculture, construction, forestry, container loads and heavy haul.

Smart Scale for mechanical suspensions includes three components: an axle-mounted load sensor, a low-powered radio transmitter and a small handheld wireless receiver. The load sensor measures changes in the deflection of the axle and sends the data to the transmitter which sends it to the receiver. The company says data can be transmitted up to 500 feet and is accurate within 1 percent compared to a certified scale.

The system is powered by AA batteries. According to the company, the system allows users to monitor the weight of an untethered trailer as it is being loaded. The handheld receiver can monitor both mechanical and air suspensions. Additionally, TruckWeight says, Smart Scale eliminates the installation expense and maintenance associated with hardwired scales and load cells.

Light, Durable Aluminum Trailer
The Fontaine Fusion is a new aluminum flatbed trailer from Fontaine Trailer that is lightweight and strong for bigger payloads at a lower fuel cost, according to the company. The Fusion is targeted at customers needing an 80,000-pound beam rating, complementing the company’s Phantom trailer that has a 100,000-pound beam rating.

The Fusion weighs 8,400 pounds but can accommodate a 52,000-pound load in just four feet. The company says its strength lies in a new, patented mainbeam design concept. The mainbeam is extruded, eliminating the high-stress weld between the web and the flange for improved strength and durability. Additionally, an over-sized 7.5-inch flange helps eliminate side-to-side sway.

Improved Trailer Roll Stability System
Haldex Commercial Vehicle Systems added the ILAS E Air Suspension Valve to its Trailer Roll Stability System, the company announced. The valve can control the position of the lift axles through an electrical connection. A 12V power supply is required to keep the lift axles in the raised position, and when the power is removed, the lift axles lower automatically. This can be controlled simply via an electrical switch.

When coupled with the Haldex TRS System, the lift axles can be controlled to raise and lower automatically as the air suspension reacts to changing loads in the trailer; the lift axle and wheels are not subjected to wear when the vehicle is empty. According to Haldex, the ILAS E / TRS System can be adjusted to react at various pressure conditions, making the system versatile for single- or multiple-lift axle trailers.

The company says the ILAS E simplifies the lift axle system with four push-to-connect fittings and a standard DIN electrical connection.
