Improved Trailer Roll Stability System
Haldex Commercial Vehicle Systems added the ILAS E Air Suspension Valve to its Trailer Roll Stability System, the company announced. The valve can control the position of the lift axles through an electrical connection. A 12V power supply is required to keep the lift axles in the raised position, and when the power is removed, the lift axles lower automatically. This can be controlled simply via an electrical switch.
When coupled with the Haldex TRS System, the lift axles can be controlled to raise and lower automatically as the air suspension reacts to changing loads in the trailer; the lift axle and wheels are not subjected to wear when the vehicle is empty.
According to Haldex, the ILAS E / TRS System can be adjusted to react at various pressure conditions, making the system versatile for single- or multiple-lift axle trailers.
The company says the ILAS E simplifies the lift axle system with four push-to-connect fittings and a standard DIN electrical connection.

New Smaller Engine
Detroit Diesel introduces the DD13, a smaller version of the DD15 engine. The DD13 displaces 12.8 liters and features a 6-cylinder, in-line configuration. Designed for less-than-truckload, regional distribution and vocational markets, the DD13 will be offered in output and torque variants from 350 to 450 hp and 1,350 to 1,650 lb.-ft.
The new engine weighs 400 lbs. less than the DD15 but is said to offer up to 5 percent better fuel economy compared to the MBE 4000, which it will be replacing.
The engine’s electronically controlled Amplified Common Rail Fuel System works in unison with Detroit Diesel’s DDEC VI engine management system to deliver the exact amount of fuel needed at the right moment, creating an optimal combustion event, according to the manufacturer.

Synthetic 5W-40 Oil
Shell Lubricants introduced Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 heavy-duty motor oil, which meets or exceeds API CJ-4 specifications. The oil is said to offer significant improvements in wear protection, soot control, deposit control, heat resistance and protection in extreme climates.
According to the company, the new oil resists breakdown by heat for better protection under high temperature or severe operation.
Through increased levels of ashless chemistry that keeps soot particles separated, the oil protects against oil thickening caused by soot and other contaminants. This helps keep the motor oil flowing for good start-up under all operating conditions.
It is compatible with the exhaust afertreatment devices found on heavy-duty trucks built beginning in January 2007. The low ash level is said to help control the rate of diesel particulate filter blockage.

Enhanced Internet Parts Sales Software
Karmak recently released an updated version of ProfitMaster Internet Parts Sales, a web-based software solution that lets dealers receive parts orders over the Internet. Fully integrated with the company’s business systems, the new release allows parts suppliers to control which customer may purchase via the Internet, and set pricing and other options for each customer.
The business system processes and fulfills the order, e-mailing an acknowledgement back to the customer. The ability to track customer activity allows dealers to analyze and respond to customer buying trends.
On the retail Web site, customers can search for parts, check prices and availability, create and maintain multiple shopping carts and checkout. They also can view account history, service history, order status, parts substitutions and right-to-return cores.

Dana “Extreme Driving” Steer Axle
A new Spicer 5.24-inch drop wide track axle for heavy-duty specialty vehicles that require high maneuverability – such as fire trucks, rescue vehicles and motor homes – is now available, the Commercial Vehicle Systems group of Dana Holding Corporation recently announced.
The D-2000W has a solid beam forged design and is available in 20,000-pound and 22,800-pound capacities. According to Dana, the new axle allows for turn angles up to 50 degrees and will accommodate air disc brakes. It also has Dana’s LMS kingpin design for improved grease retention and helps prevent contamination in both pressurized and vacuum situations. Among the features of the D-2000W are:
- A patented purge valve for improved tie rod end life through the reduction of contaminates;
- A patented “Power Rib Beam” design for improved beam deflection that also reduces tire wear, as well as promoting better vehicle control under severe braking conditions; and
- Compatibility with Spicer LMS hubs.

Six Sizes Added To Tire Line
Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions is introducing six new sizes to its line of Firestone FS560 Plus steer tires. These tires are designed for pick up and delivery and local hauling applications.
Tires are available in the following sizes: 9R22.5 and 10R22.5 in “F” load ranges; 10R22.5 in “G” load range; and 255/70R22.5, 275/70R22.5 and 215/75R17.5 low profile sizes in “H” load ranges.
The new tires have a deep tread for long original mileage with a solid shoulder design to help fight the turning and maneuvering scrub forces that short hauls and urban usage inflict on tires, according to the manufacturer.
Multiple cross-rib sipes and wide, deep “flow-through” grooves are said to evacuate water efficiently from the footprint for precision traction. The FS560 has four full-steel belts, an all-steel casing ply and a special two-layer tread.
