The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently released a list of idling reduction devices eligible to be excluded from paying the 12 percent federal excise tax.
Exempt devices include auxiliary power units, air conditioning systems and thermal storage systems. Product criteria for the exemption are listed on the EPA website (www.epa.gov). In the Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008, Section 206 provides for these exemptions:
