Big jump in U.S. diesel prices

For the second straight week, the national average price of a gallon of diesel climbed sharply. For the week ended March 30, the price jumped 13.1 cents to $2.221.

Over the past two weeks, prices have risen more than 20 cents a gallon. Two weeks ago, the price hovered just above $2 a gallon. The national average hit a record high of $4.764 last July.

For the latest week, average prices increased in all regions tracked by the U.S. Department of Energy. New England remained the most expensive region at $2.424. The Rocky Mountain area has the cheapest price at $2.146.
