Fuel Filter Blocks Microscopic Contaminants
Parker Hannifin’s Racor Division said its new ParFit fuel filters PFF296 (replaces CAV296) and PFF297 (replaces CAV796) help protect expensive systems and components from microscopic solid contaminants and damaging water.

The fuel filters, which contain one of three media grades developed for optimum performance and versatility, are applicable for on- or off-highway vehicles and stationary equipment.

Electrical, Air Cables Available in 20-foot Lengths
Phillips Industries has added 20-foot length options to more of its electrical and air cable products that previously were available only in 12-foot and 15-foot lengths, including ABS Lectracoil, Permacoil, ABS Permacoil, ABS Lectraflex, ABS Lectracoil with QCP, Permacoil with QCP and ABS Permacoil with QCP. Phillips said the new 20-foot cable options offer a solution for vehicles that require the extra length for a sharper turning radius.

No-idle System for Day Cabs
Bergstrom Inc. announced it developed a new battery-powered air conditioning system, designed specifically for day cabs.

The NITE Day Cab No-Idle System was developed in response to growing demand for solutions to reduce idling in the day cab industry, as well as increasing federal, state and local regulations against truck idling, the company said.

The NITE Day Cab No-Idle System utilizes one or two deep-cycle absorbed glass mat (AGM) batteries to power the air-conditioning system. The company said this keeps the driver cool when the truck’s engine is turned off. To assure there is sufficient battery power to start the truck, the starting batteries are protected from discharge by a separator.

According to Bergstrom, when the system is in the air-conditioning mode, no fuel is used as the Bergstrom NITE Plus system uses deep-cycle AGM battery power. With the optional heating unit, only 0.05 gallons per hour are consumed. The battery is charged by the truck’s alternator during normal operation.

Meritor WABCO Introduces SmartTrac Suite of Products
Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems introduced SmartTrac, a collection of anti-lock braking, automatic traction control and stability control systems for commercial vehicles.
The company said SmartTrac uses advanced electronic control units with enhanced capabilities to help North American truck operators with more options to meet their operational needs.

“SmartTrac fits perfectly with our Pyramid of Safety concept,” said Jon Morrison, president and general manager of Meritor WABCO. “It provides a broad base for controlling braking and stability control technologies now and in the future.”

The SmartTrac family of stability control systems is currently available immediately as a factory-installed option at several truck, tractor and trailer OEMs. The family encompasses anti-lock braking systems (ABS), automatic traction control (ATC) and stability control systems – designed for vehicle applications like commercial trucks and trailers, construction, fire and rescue, bus and coach and military.

Continental Releases New Heavy Steer Tire
Continental Tire North America Inc. announced an addition to its lineup of heavy-truck steer tires, the HSU2 (Heavy Steer Urban), which replaces the HSU model and is produced in Continental’s plant in Mt. Vernon, Ill.

The Fort Mill, S.C.-based company said its redesigned tire offers increased tread life through its wider 26/32-inch deep rib design, now with 17 percent more wear volume than the HSU, which provides high removal miles. According to Continental, the tread of the HSU2 is formulated with a cut- and tear-resistant tread compound to provide added wear in both high scrub and on-/off-road applications, making the tire suitable for waste haulers, construction and other on-/off-highway service.

Carrying over from the original HSU is a sidewall curb rib designed to help fight damage from curbing, cuts and abrasions. The HSU2’s enhanced bead design enables 10,000-pound load-carrying capacity at 65 mph, the company said. The new HSU2 is available in the 315/80R22.5 size.

Enhanced Finish for More Accuride Aluminum Wheels
Accuride Corporation announced it increased availability of its enhanced finish for aluminum wheels. The finishing process, which produces a semi-polished appearance on unpolished wheels, is now available as standard across the company’s aluminum wheel product line, excluding small diameter trailer wheels.

“When customers compare Accuride’s standard enhanced finish to the competition’s standard machine-finished wheel, we feel, they will be amazed at the difference,” said Rick Schomer, Accuride’s senior vice president of Marketing and Sales. “Our enhanced finish provides the driver with the look of an upgraded aluminum wheel at standard aluminum wheel pricing.”

Wireless Wheel Dolly
ARI-Hetra recently launched the AH-80330 High-Capacity Wireless Wheel Dolly, which features a battery-operated hydraulic lifting mechanism with a 2,000-pound lifting capacity for tires up to 53 inches in diameter. The product comes standard with a “Quick Charge” battery charger. Heavy-duty lift arms with rollers allow rotation of wheels for easy alignment with the bolt pattern. The platform arms are adjustable corner-to-corner and tilt up and down.

Dana Offers New Line of Medium-duty Axles
Dana Holding Corporation launched the Spicer S140 Series of single-drive, medium-duty axles it said is engineered to improve fuel economy, reduce maintenance costs, increase operator comfort and boost overall vehicle performance.

Now available, new Spicer S140 Series single reduction axles replace all previous 17,000- to 19,000-pound Spicer drive axles. They are available for all makes and models of straight-truck chassis up to 19,000-pound Gross Axle Weight Ratings.
Spicer S140 Series axles are 85 pounds lighter, compared with previous Dana and current competitive medium-duty axles. With an initial Roadranger lubrication drain at 250,000 miles and 32 percent less lubrication required overall, these axles are easier to maintain and more environmentally friendly than previous Dana and current competitive designs, the company said.

Optimized to perform in vehicles with drive-train ratings up to 860 lb-ft of torque and up to 300 horsepower, Spicer S140 Series axles support Gross Combination Weight Ratings up to 46,000 pounds and typical Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings up to 31,000 pounds in most vocational applications. Maximum Gross Combined Weight Ratings of 50,000 pounds and Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings of 33,000 pounds are available under specific application approvals.
