Diesel prices rise 1.2 cents

After four straight weeks of small decreases, the national retail price of on-highway diesel rose 1.2 cents to $2.943 per gallon. The price of diesel is 30.9 cents higher than the same week last year, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.Diesel 9 13

Diesel prices increased in all but three regions: New England, West Coast and California. The nationwide rise in prices was due to a 2-cent increase in the Midwest — the only region where the average price increase was higher than the 1.2-cent overall increase.

As usual, prices were highest in California at $3.142 a gallon, followed by $3.101 in other West Coast states. The nation’s least expensive diesel by region, $2.887, was found in the Gulf Coast region.

Average retail prices for all regions are available on EIA’s website.
