Penske Truck Leasing announced that it has received from Allison Transmission Inc., a designer and manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty automatic transmissions and hybrid propulsion systems, the company’s one millionth 3000 Series transmission. The historic unit has been specified in a Freightliner M2 chassis and is being used by longtime Penske lease customer East Penn Manufacturing of Lyon Station, Pa.
“We’re very pleased to be in receipt of a milestone Allison 3000 series transmission,” says Brian Hard, Penske Truck Leasing president and chief executive officer. “Allison and Penske have enjoyed a long and successful working relationship. We are fortunate to provide this leased vehicle to a valued customer like East Penn Manufacturing.”
“East Penn has been specifying premium Allison automatic transmissions since 2002,” says Mike Dietrich, East Penn Fleet operations manager. “We currently have over 50 Allison transmissions in our fleet.”
Allison 3000 Series transmissions are used in a variety of applications, including distribution, refuse, construction, school buses, fire and emergency vehicles and motorhomes. Allison fully automatic transmissions, with torque converter technology, are designed to provide superior acceleration, higher productivity, increased fuel efficiency, reduced operating costs, less driveline shock and smoother shifting relative to both manual transmissions and automated manual transmissions.
A plaque commemorating the special transmission has been given to all parties involved. “Allison Transmission is proud to be able to celebrate this milestone with valued customers East Penn, Penske and Daimler Trucks North America,” says Jim Wanaselja, vice president of North American marketing, sales and service.
