Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration officials have ordered the closure of Elk Grove Villiag, Ill.-based C&D Transportation Inc., citing the company as an “imminent hazard to public safety” and claiming the carrier ignored a prior shutdown order.

The company “has engaged in and continues to engage in a pattern and practice of blatantly ignoring and/or violating significant provisions” of federal trucking regulations, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration wrote in its shutdown order.

The carrier willfully violated a Nov. 8 out-of-service order by leasing vehicles, one of which was involved in an accident Nov. 11 in Pennsylvania, FMCSA alleged. Further, FMCSA claimed the carrier also failed to ensure that its drivers carried commercial driver licenses and were proficient in English. It also charged that the carrier violated records-of-duty-status and vehicle weight limit regulations multiple times, according to FMCSA.

C&D officials said they plan to correct the violations FMCSA has alleged.
