Daimler Trucks North America announced last week the company would begin producing natural gas trucks at its Freightliner plant in Cleveland, N.C later this year.

Greg Treinen, segment manager for Daimler, told the Salisbury Post the company manufactured approximately 700 trucks with natural gas engines in 2012 and they expect that number to skyrocket with production of the Cascadia model with Cummins’s new Westport ISX12 G natural gas engine.

The company’s Mount Holly, N.C. plant has been producing natural gas trucks since 2009. Freightliner representatives told the newspaper expect the Cleveland plant to produce about 200 such trucks this year.
