Dana will debut its Spicer EconoTrek tandem axle, the company’s new lightweight 6×2 configuration that improves performance, reduces maintenance, and increases fuel economy for heavy-duty line haul tractors, at the Mid-America Trucking Show this week.
The company says the new configuration improves fuel economy by up to 3 percent through decreases in mechanical drivetrain energy loss and reduces weight by up to 400 pounds when compared with a traditional 40,000-pound tandem axle arrangement.
Dana says it will also feature the Spicer AdvanTEK 40 tandem axle, an all-new 40,000-lb. tandem axle featuring a design that increases fuel economy, improves reliability, reduces vehicle weight, and decreases total ownership costs.
Compared with competitive tandem-axle offerings, the Spicer AdvanTEK 40 can deliver more than $8,000 in operating savings over a five-year period through a powerful combination of features including the industry’s fastest axle ratio of 2.26:1 and lower axle weight, according to Dana.
