Dana unveils new 6×2 axle

Dana unveiled a new lightweight axle for 6×2 configurations at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky. this week.

The Spicer EconoTrek was designed for line haul applications and can improve fuel economy by up to 3 percent, says Dana.

The axle will be available this June and is a combination of Dana’s Spicer S170 and S190 single-reduction single drive axles and its new Spicer S20-045B tag axle. Dana says the eTrac system will seamlessly transfer weight to the Spicer S170 or S190 series drive axle for improved low-speed traction when combined with the Spicer patented wheel-differential lock feature.

“Together” Dana says, “these axles provide reliability and durability for the industry’s lightest 6×2 tandem axle configuration,” according to an announcement from the company.

“Updated with new components and designs to increase fuel efficiency and durability, the Spicer EconoTrek tandem axle offers performance improvements that can boost the productivity of 6×2 fleets,” said Pat D’Eramo, president of Dana Commercial Vehicle Driveline Technologies.
