Phillips Industiries has published its most recent Qwik Tech Tips technical newsletter.
This month’s issue tackles IP Ratings for Ingress protection, the sole purpose of which are to provide accurate information about the protection level an electric fixture offers.
Phillips notes all IP ratings begin with IP and are followed by two numbers. The first number falls on a scale of 0 to 6 and relates to the protective level against solids like dirt, sand, dust and debris. The second number falls on a scale of 0 to 8 and represents protection against liquids, water or otherwise. The higher the number, the greater protection.
What is the benefit of these ratings? Phillips Industries notes ingress protection in the trucking industry provides products like wiring harness, cable assemblies and other applications a quality identifier.
