Nolan Lukasik, a student at Westfield Technical Academy in Westfield, Mass., earned first place and a gold medal. He will represent the state in the Diesel Equipment Technology Championship at the National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta in June.

During the competition at ATG, students tested their knowledge of tools, precision measurement, vehicle components and job interview skills. They competed at tasks related to engine diagnostics, electrical systems, brakes, air systems and more.

"I'm learning a lot at ATG and get to apply what I learn," Lukasik says. He earned second place at last year's competition and has been working at ATG's Westfield facility through the school's cooperative education program. He will be working full-time at ATG after he graduates. "I work with one of the diesel techs and help him with whatever's needed, from oil changes and finding oil leaks to diagnostics, wiring and brakes. It's a great place and I'm excited to work there full time."

John Harrigan of Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School earned second place and a silver medal. Jonathan Tremblay of Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School earned third place and a bronze medal.

"I look forward to this day every year," ATG Training Director Rob Lynds says. "I enjoy helping the next generation of diesel technicians get ready to start their careers by challenging their skills and exposing them to opportunities and the industry."
