CARB extends Donaldson LXF Muller verification

Donaldson Co., a worldwide manufacturer of filtration systems and parts, announced that the California Air Resources Board has extended the previously verified Donaldson Low NOx Filter (LXF) Muffler to cover newer-year diesel engines (2002-2006) originally equipped with oxidation catalysts. The extension added engine families between 100 and 600 hp with certified NOx emissions of less than 3.0 g/bhp-hr used in on-road vehicles.

“We’re very pleased to receive the CARB verification extension of the LXF Muffler Systems,” said Fred Schmidt, director of Donaldson Retrofit Emissions. “The verification provides broad engine coverage for vehicles subject to the upcoming regulatory deadlines of the California Diesel Risk Reduction Program.”

Schmidt said many of the newly-approved engines are popular in retrofit programs, especially on school buses, refuse trucks and municipal vehicles. “Additionally, the LXF Muffler verification extension includes select federal engines and allows the application of a 13-inch diameter DPF substrate for larger engines.”

The LXF Muffler, available through the Donaldson certified retrofit emissions dealer network, offers vehicle and fleet owners a diesel particulate filter solution for vehicles with sufficient duty cycles to permit passive DPF regeneration, Schmidt said. “This technology offers the lowest regeneration temperatures, expanding the application range,” he said. “In addition, the LXF Muffler is a passively regenerated emissions device which is less complex, with lower installation costs compared to competitive actively-regenerated systems.”
