Accuride’s Fabco introduces FSD-23 steerable drive axle

Updated Mar 22, 2011

The Fabco Division of the Accuride Corporation has released a new steerable drive axle. The FSD-23 steerable drive axle is designed to provide a lighter weight and lower height solution for heavy-duty all-wheel drive vehicles, the company says.

“Fabco’s new low-profile 18,000-23,000-lb. steerable drive axle will assist truck manufacturers in their efforts to maintain a low cab height in vehicles with larger engines which normally make installation of front drive axles more difficult,” says Al Sunderland, Fabco president. “The low profile axle design utilizes a high torque capacity and compact single reduction differential assembly to reduce the axle profile.”

The FSD-23 is the fourth generation 18,000 to 23,000 lbs. product from Fabco. According to the company, improvements to this model from previous iterations include:

  • Low-profile design for reduced vehicle cab and frame height.
  • Approximately 100 lb. weight savings over previous SDA-series.
  • Optional driver-controlled differential locks.
  • High volume S-cam brakes with automatic slack adjusters.
  • Inclined spherical bearing king pins for steering performance and easy maintenance.
