Bergstrom produces new heat control valves

Updated Jan 9, 2012

BergstromBergstrom Inc. has launched its next generation heater control valve; a highly-compatible component that it says features a more robust design and increased versatility.

The new heater control valve is designed to retain its properties when exposed to new organic acid technology-type long-life OAT coolants, the company says. The valves also are said to give enhanced performance using conventional coolants at elevated temperatures and pressures commonly seen in today’s emission-compliant engines.

“In redesigning this heater control valve we paid close attention to the lessons we’ve learned from existing valves on the market,” says John Bracey, vice president of engineering for Bergstrom, Inc. “We feel that we’ve succeeded in developing a heater control valve that is far superior to anything that’s currently on the market, and also much more in tune to the demands of today’s emission-compliant engines.”

New features are said to include:

  • Customizable heater control valve that allows the user to choose what best fits his application
  • Numerous connection options with copper tube attachments that allow for rotation at any time without seal damage during assembly
  • Robust valve bodies that are made from specially engineered Dupont Zytel Plus nylon, providing long-term performance despite exposure to hot coolant, hot oil, hot air, calcium chloride and other aggressive automotive chemicals
  • Long wear valve stems made from special plastic alloy that provides low friction while retaining properties when exposed to long-life OAT coolant
  • High-performance seals from EPDM blended with lubricant
  • Bi-directional flow to ease fear of backward flows

Bergstrom says the new heater valve will be available for split HVAC systems, stacked core HVAC systems, liquid cooled electrical components and other auxiliary cooling systems.
