Phillips unveils additions to Sta-Dry product line

Updated Mar 16, 2012

Phillips TrackerPhillips Industries announced additions to its Sta-Dry product line Feb. 19 during a press conference at the American Trucking Associations’ TMC annual meeting in Tampa.

Phillips’ first new product additions are two Sta-Dry Weather-Tite Connectors, seven-way male connector plugs with integrated seals that are said to stop moisture from entering the electrical system.

According to Phillips, the first connector is an unbreakable glass-filled nylon connector and the second is a hybrid competition that uses unbreakable glass filled nylon and zinc die cast. Each connector is said to have added protection from moisture with a three-blade Nitrile wiper seal at its mating end. Phillips says the seal effectively blocks any contaminants from entering at the seven-way connection.

The connectors will be available in July, and features are said to include:

  • Nitrile sealing rings that stop magnesium chloride and other debris from entering socket.
  • Mates with any SAE approved seven-way conductor socket.
  • Wiper seals are field replaceable.
  • Connector rear is sealed with compression clamp and TPR sleeve for further corrosion protection.
  • Cable guard is ratchet locked preventing vibration from loosening guard
  • Connector has ABS bumper.
  • 26-gauge brass insert pins have stainless steel compression springs.
  • Standard with dielectric grease.

Phillips’ second new product is the Sta-Dry Tracker, an electrical socket that is said to upgrade and improve the connection between a tractor and trailer.

The Sta-Dry Tracker is a swiveling electrical socket that can turn up to 80 degrees (40 degrees in each direction) and will automatically disconnect if a turn exceeds that angle, the company says.

“We’ve wanted to build this for years, but we could never find the method to make it functional without compromising the copper wire,” says Bob Phillips, president and CEO. “Finally our engineers figured it out and we think this product can be a real game-changer because it simply saves fleets money with only a minor modification to their equipment.  It pays for itself over and over again.”

According to Phillips, features of the Sta-Dry Tracker include:

  • Allows 80 degree turning without damaging the nosebox, cable or plug.
  • When combined with swivel gladhands, like the Phillips Swinger Gladhand, the entire air and electrical lines are safe.
  • The shroud protects the swivel from icing in extreme cold weather.
  • The patented QCS2 is waterproof, stopping corrosion from entering the electrical system.
  • Since 70 percent of people are right handed, the Tracker allows the driver to plug cable in and take out using right hand versus feeling ergonomically awkward while using left hand.
  • Extended cable automatically disconnects when pulled to the extreme, preventing damage and permanent loss of connectivity.
  • Multiple wire and cable entry from bottom.
  • Three-year warranty.
