Navistar applauds Colombia free trade agreement

Updated May 21, 2012

NavistarNavistar Chairman, President and CEO Dan Ustian on Thursday, May 17, applauded the entry into force of the free trade agreement between the United States and Colombia. Ustian said the free trade agreement will benefit the U.S. manufacturing sector.

“Combined with the elimination of tariffs on select truck categories, I am confident that the trade facilitation and customs administration provisions in the U.S.-Colombian agreement will boost the export of U.S. manufactured goods to Colombia,” Ustian said.

Ustian also announced an immediate demonstration of the accord’s benefit: This week, Navistar’s first tariff-free trucks will leave the assembly plant in Garland, Texas, bound for Colombia. Navistar’s International PayStar tractors will be employed by sugar growers to move cane from plantations to mills, “strengthening the Colombian agribusiness sector in the process,” Ustian said.
