Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal operates a fleet of waste collection vehicles in extreme conditions including high altitude and temperatures ranging from 30 degrees below zero to more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit  The fleet includes a garbage disposal truck with a Cummins M11 engine, which the company recently dismantled and studied after 16,000 hours of service using Delo 400 LE SAE 15W-40 and Delo Extended Life Coolant.

“While the exterior of the truck looked like it had travelled to the moon and back, the engine remained in top condition,” said Jim McGeehan, senior scientist at Chevron. “The truck’s camshaft was in excellent condition with no abrasive wear pattern.”

“We’ve done the tear-down on the engine, which has used Delo oil and Delo Extended Life Coolant for 16,000+ hours,” Jay Sears, OE dealer shop foreman during the engine tear-down, says. “Looking at the wear materials, they look very good for that amount of hours on this engine.”

Glenn Ryan, mechanic for the OE dealer service department who was conducting the engine teardown, indicated that the cam shaft’s lobes for fuel injectors, intake valves and exhaust valves exhibited very little wear.

“I don’t see any difference in this cam and a brand-new cam out of the box,” he says.
