SAF-Holland fifth wheel earns position with Freightliner, Western Star

SAF-Holland announced Wednesday it has earned standard fifth wheel positioning for all moderate and severe-duty fifth applications on Freightliner and Western Star tractors.

SAF-Holland says the moderate-duty standard offering fifth wheel is the FW35 in a 12 in., sliding mount configuration. The FW35 model has a 55,000 lb., vertical load rating and features the highly reliable TwinLock jaw mechanism.

The standard position severe-duty model is the robust FW70 fifth wheel with a 24 in., severe-duty sliding mount configuration, a 70,000 lb., vertical load rating and a 200,000 lb. maximum drawbar pull, the company adds.

“We are honored that Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) has selected Holland fifth wheels for its Freightliner and Western Star brands,” says Jason Cantu, product manager, Fifth Wheel. “Our strengthened DTNA partnership and this standard positioning opportunity will greatly benefit extra-duty fleet customers.”

The FW35, the world’s most versatile fifth wheel, SAF-Holland says, is rated for multiple applications and is available in a variety of non-standard position models, including the FW33 LowLube. Option requests include air release for in-cab lock release, and for the highest level of fleet safety, the Electronic Lock Indicator – Technology Enhanced (ELI-te), designed to assist the driver with accomplishing a successful coupling time after time, the company adds.

The FW35 and the FW70 are also available with the optional NoTilt, and the Kompensator mounting bracket, in both stationary and sliding mounting systems, SAF-Holland adds.
