TA putting in its first electric truck charging station

Electric truck charging

TravelCenters of America (TA) will break ground on one of the nation's first publicly accessible, micro-grid powered medium- and heavy-duty truck charging stations this Wednesday.

The event will be held at the TA travel center in Ontario, Calif. Attendees will include Debi Boffa, CEO TravelCenters of America; Sujay Sharma, CEO bp pulse, Americas; Commissioner Patricia Monahan, California Energy Commission; and other elected officials and community leaders.

TA says the charging station, a pilot project in collaboration with the California Energy Commission, demonstrates bp's commitment to support fleet customers transitioning to zero-tail pipe emission trucks. The company says the truck charging station will include:

  • Four 400kW chargers, with an additional lane for a 1 megawatt (MCS) charger, providing DC ultra-fast charging for up to five trucks simultaneously
  • An integrated microgrid generating reliable, renewable power from solar panels
  • A battery energy storage system
