Isuzu Commercial Truck of America started production of the Isuzu NRR-EV this week.

"Isuzu teams overseas and here in North America have worked tirelessly to bring the NRR-EV from concept to reality," says Shaun Skinner, president. "Start of production marks a pivotal moment for us. This vehicle not only showcases our technological prowess but also our dedication to sustainability and innovation. We are incredibly excited to start seeing our EV on the road and in the hands of our customers."

The NRR-EV is produced in Charlotte, Mich. The first deliveries are expected in September 2024. Key features of the truck include:

  • Four battery pack configurations — 60, 100, 140 or 180 kWh — with more than 150 kW of max power and 280 lb. ft. of torque and an operating voltage of 350 volts.
  • Regenerative braking that captures kinetic energy and transfers it to the batteries. The driver can set it to their driving preference.
  • ECO Mode helps extend vehicle range by reducing acceleration performance and battery consumption.
  • Level 2 AC and DC fast-charging systems that fully charges the vehicle in less than two hours.
  • Advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) with lane departure warning system (LDWS), automatic emergency braking system (AEBS), following distance warning, misacceleration mitigation, forward vehicle start notification and full-range adaptive cruise control. A pedestrian alert system (PAS) notifies nearby pedestrians with audible cues the vehicle is near when operating at low speed due to its quiet operaiton.
  • Electric power take–off (ePTO) for powering auxiliary equipment and provides 7kWh of continuous power with a peak of 25kWh.
  • Isuzu Group Connect for monitoring cruising distance, battery level, charging status and charging history. The service is free and enhances the standard warranty.
  • A new front bumper design Isuzu says improves cooling performance. It also says the cab is the company's quietest ever with enhanced aerodynamics.
  • Three wheelbases to accommodate bodies from 10 to 20 feet.
  • A stronger frame made of HT540 hot-rolled steel.
