"We recognized early on that the transition to battery-electric vehicles required more than just the trucks themselves, that it had to be a total ecosystem of support on this ground-breaking technology," says Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America. "We take an extensive consultative approach with our customers and a major step of that was to be the first OEM to create a certified EV dealer network. Our dedicated effort to build a complete electromobility ecosystem continues to pay off, expanding across the United States and Canada. We remain committed to customers and their successful transition to zero tailpipe emission, battery-electric trucks with the assurance that we are with them every step of the way."
The company says there are more than 570 VNR Electric Class 8 trucks on the road since customer orders began in December 2020. Combined, these trucks have driven over 8.5 million zero-tailpipe-emission miles. Globally, over 4,300 Volvo electrified commercial trucks are in operation in 48 countries.
The following dealer locations recently completed the EV certification process:
- TEC Equipment, Dixon, Calif.
- Bruckner's Truck & Equipment, Dallas.
- Tri-State Truck & Equipment, Billings, Mont.
- O'Connor Motor Company, Portland, Maine.
- Volvo Lac St.-Jean, Saint-Prime, Quebec.
Volvo has 64 certified electric vehicle dealerships across 28 states. More than 30 other dealer locations across North America are in the EV certification process.
Beyond its certified dealer network, Volvo Trucks also has established a comprehensive support system that includes digital tools for route planning and total cost of ownership analysis, strategic partnerships to enhance public and private charging infrastructure, and training programs to develop the next generation of truck technicians.
Last May at the 2024 ACT Expo in Las Vegas, Volvo Trucks and Volvo Financial Services unveiled Volvo on Demand, a new Truck-as-a-Service (TAAS) program designed for fleets who are adding the VNR Electric to their respective operations. The program allows these fleets to experience the VNR Electric for a period of time (as little as 12 months) in order to learn the electrification ecosystem and other vital information before making a larger capital investment that's necessary for purchase or long-term leasing.
