GiraffeG4 brings manufacturing to United States

Updated May 16, 2019

GiraffeG4 Systems LLC, the manufacturer of the GiraffeG4 System the “Low Clearance” Collision Prevention System, has moved its manufacturing to the United States.

The GiraffeG4 is a two-part measuring system consisting of an exterior weather and waterproof sensor, and a display unit inside the cab with the driver. GiraffeG4 says the exterior sensor uses sound waves to measure “low clearance” obstacles (bridges, trestles, trees, etc.). The display unit in the cab shows the exact height of the obstacle before the truck enters and continues to measure the height as the truck continues under it. If the bridge is too low the driver is warned in time to stop, with a buzzer and flashing numbers, the company says.

The GiraffeG4 System works with tractor trailers, heavy haulers, car haulers and pilot cars. The United States firms that are manufacturing the GiraffeG4 System now are Acromatics in Leominster, Mass. for ABS plastic molding and custom tooling. Handling PCB design and electronic assembly is Martek Electronics in Onamia, Minn.
