Murphy-Hoffman Company (MHC) employees are coming together to raise more than $17,000 for the ALS Association Mid-America Chapter in support of longtime customer Tom Kretsinger, CEO at American Central Transport, and others like him battling Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive, neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages about 2-5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Approximately 6,000 Americans are diagnosed with ALS each year, usually striking people between the ages of 40-70.
“Tom’s attitude toward life is inspiring,” says Jeff McQuillan, MHC regional new truck manager. “We need to find a cure for this disease. The ALS Association is a reputable cause to support and a great first step toward curing this disease once and for all.”
MHC employees will participate in the ALS Mid-America Chapter’s annual Walk to Defeat ALS event at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., on Sept. 16, 2017. To learn more about ALS or make a donation, visit www.alsa-midamerica.org.
