Ryder System Inc., has tapped Clean Energy Fuels Corp. to open a liquified natural gas (LNG) station in Georgetown, Ky., to support the company’s fleet of trucks that provide services for Toyota’s largest North American manufacturing facility.
The trucks are expected to consume approximately 380,000 gasoline gallon equivalents each year.
“At Ryder, we have the opportunity and ability to continually reduce the environmental impacts of our operations and those of the customers we serve,” says Chris Nordh, Ryder’s senior director of advanced vehicle technologies and energy products.
Ryder has made sustainability a priority and has been a leader in expanding its offering of advanced vehicle technologies. Toyota has also rapidly expanded into alternative fuels and has encouraged its third-party carriers to move its goods in a more sustainable way.
“We are seeing a trend in shippers selecting carriers that demonstrate a commitment to the environment,” adds Chad Lindholm, Clean Energy vice president. “Natural gas is a perfect fit for carriers because not only is it cleaner, it’s abundant, is available today, performs every bit as well as diesel, and makes sense economically.”
