Commerce Bank exec to speak on fraud at UTA Convention

Bernice Hodge, vice president, treasury services at Commerce Bank, has been announced as a presenter at the upcoming 2018 Used Truck Association (UTA) Annual Convention in November in Orlando.

Hodge will speak on combating fraud in the business world. She will describe the alarming increase in payment fraud, share examples, and then offer best practices businesses can follow to avoid fraud, and finally what to do should they encounter it, UTA says.

“Criminals are finding new and more sophisticated ways to gain access to company information and funds,” says Hodge.

Other topics Hodge will cover include:

  • Knowing who you are doing business with.
  • Good accounting controls and safeguards.
  • Separate payment duties to reduce internal and external fraud schemes.
  • Internal and external audits.
  • How to avoid phishing schemes.
  • Banking tools to help truck dealers reduce the likelihood of becoming fraud victims.

UTA says Hodge recently spoke to the UTA’s Dealer Group, and Bobby Williams, UTA Vice President and Dealer Group Chair noted how helpful her presentation was.

“Bernice knows her stuff,” Williams says. “She got down to brass tacks with us. After the conference call with the UTA Dealer Group, several truck dealers called me and said how good her presentation was. Some of these dealers said, ‘I wish had heard her presentation earlier.'”

Hodge has 35 years of treasury services experience with a variety of clients on treasury solutions, banking automation, payment efficiencies, and fraud and risk prevention services. She joined Commerce Bank in 2004 after working with Bank of America for 23 years, holding several key positions within their treasury services division.

The UTA’s 19th Annual Convention will be held Nov. 7-10, 2018, at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort at Universal, in Orlando. For more information, and to register, please CLICK HERE.
