03 02 17 uta 300x200On a trip home to visit his parents Randall Walker, the son of Eddie Walker, president, Best Used Trucks, was returning home to Loleta, Calif. After flying into Los Angeles International Airport, Randall Walker decided to drive the rest of the way to his home in Northern California.

The Camp Fire in Northern California has had a devastating effect. The fire has left 88 dead and nearly 20,000 homes and businesses damaged or destroyed, according to Reuters. Many people are still unaccounted for. Among the rubble, the burned-out houses and trailers, and the incinerated automobiles and bicycles, Randall Walker saw a burned-out bus.

“Randall called me and asked me how to fix that bus so he could then take it back to help people,” says Eddie Walker. He told his son he would need need too many buses even if he did fix that one. Inspired, Eddie Walker spoke with Rick Clark, UTA’s president, because the UTA always comes to mind when he thinks of people banding together to help others.

Clark suggested contacting the Salvation Army. Eddie Walker called a high school friend, John Tolan, who has contacts within the organization. With Tolan’s advice, Eddie Walker chose to raise money and donate it to the Salvation Army. UTA members are following his lead, according to an announcement.

To donate, send check to: Camp Fire Relief, The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 34800, Sacramento, Calif., 95834; or call the Salvation Army at 800-725-2769.
