The American Truck Dealers (ATD) announced Wednesday it will not hold its annual show in 2021 but will return to trucking’s event schedule in 2022. The news was announced only minutes before ATA’s Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) announced it also was canceling its 2020 TMC SuperTech and FutureTech competitions, and would move its TMC Fall Meeting to a virtual format for the first time.
Each move was made due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
ATD Chairman Steve Bassett says the decision to remove the association’s 2021 event from the calendar was “under consideration for some time.” He says the NADA currently still intends to hold its 2021 Show in New Orleans in January, and the ATD Show will return in conjunction with the NADA Show in Las Vegas in 2022.
Speaking of that 2022 event, Bassett adds, “ATD’s overall mission for the show is to be proactive and take actions that will result in an event that is better and more impactful than ever. We will take the time to assess our current offerings and plan a show that optimally suits the needs of America’s truck dealers.”
TMC’s decision to go virtual this year was a decision that was not taken lightly, organizers say. The theme, Reliable Answers for Uncertain Times, centers around societal changes accelerated by technology and the ongoing COVID-19 crisis — transforming the ways fleets specify and operate equipment in both intentional and unintended ways.
By holding the event virtually, TMC says it will enable registrants the chance to experience all the content of TMC’s Fall Meeting while still being sensitive to the health- and economic-related pressures everyone is facing in 2020. The fall event is still scheduled for Sept. 14-17.
