The average U.S. diesel price declined this week by more than a nickel to $2.542 a gallon, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
The average price of a gallon of diesel is $2.22 less than a year ago when prices jumped to close to $5 a gallon.
Price decreases were reported in all regions tracked by the DOE. The least expensive region is the Gulf Coast at $2.494, and the most costly is California, which dropped 6 cents a gallon to $2.727.
