Phillips has released its Permalogic Selector System designed specifically for fleets using refrigerated trailers and liftgates. The system is integrated into a sealed junction box at the nose of the trailer. A dual pole socket is used to pull power directly from the truck batteries along with a direct connection from the reefer batteries.
By sensing the source of power with the most charging capacity, the Permalogic Selector System directs the charge to a DC-to-DC converter, which boosts the voltage to 14.4 volts, according to Phillips; this helps accelerate the charging process between deliveries to ensure the liftgate has sufficient power at the next stop.
The company says the Permalogic Selector System also works on a reefer trailer when it is staged for transfer, or not connected to a truck, by drawing power from the running reefer unit every time it cycles on to give the liftgate batteries a frequent recharge.
The Permalogic Selector System is available to buy as individual components, or as a kit; included in the kit is the Permalogic Selector Nose Box with a dual pole socket, a Trailcharger (DC-to-DC converter), a Reefer Harness and an installation manual. In addition, Phillips says it offers Trailcharger harnesses in 30-, 40- and 50-foot lengths to fit virtually any trailer liftgate battery configuration.
