The Unit Number Search feature speeds access to repair information without requiring technicians to look up VINs or guess sub-models. Fleet customers provide Mitchell 1 with a mapping of asset tags to specific vehicles in their system. Technicians simply enter the asset tag into the search bar, and the platform automatically directs them to the correct service information. Automated synchronization between the fleet’s vehicles and TruckSeries ensures the information is always accurate.

Mitchell 1 introduced a new search function for its TruckSeries repair software during the 2026 ATA Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) Annual Meeting, aimed at simplifying how technicians access data for Class 4-8 vehicles.

A new Unit Number Search feature allows users to pull up vehicle-specific repair manuals using a fleet’s internal asset ID or unit number. Traditionally, technicians must locate a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or manually select sub-model details to find the correct digital documents. Under the new system, fleets provide Mitchell 1 with a mapping of their asset tags to specific vehicles, which the software then synchs automatically.

Kristy Coffman, director of Mitchell 1’s Commercial Vehicle Group, noted the update is intended to align the software with the identifiers technicians use daily on the shop floor.

“Enterprise fleets manage hundreds or even thousands of vehicles, each identified by a unique unit number painted on the side,” she said. “Unit Number Search enables technicians to quickly pull up the correct repair information using the identifier they work with every day."

The product launch coincides with Mitchell 1’s 20th anniversary in the commercial vehicle sector. The company first entered the digital heavy-duty space in 2006 with the launch of Tractor-Trailer.net.

Coffman added that the Unit Number Search function is the latest iteration of the company's long-term collaboration with TMC, and is designed to reduce the time spent on administrative data entry during the repair process.
