Mack Trucks is celebrating the 50th anniversary of REMACK, its remanufacturing division.
"REMACK exemplifies Mack's dedication to both customer value and environmental stewardship," says Richard Simons, senior vice president of aftermarket solutions, uptime and customer support. "This milestone not only marks years of engineering excellence, but decades of keeping valuable materials in productive use. By remanufacturing components to exacting Mack specifications, we're providing our customers with cost-effective solutions while also making a meaningful contribution to sustainability by keeping valuable materials in productive use."

The remanufacturing process uses up to 85% less material and 80% less energy compared with new production, Mack says, making it a cornerstone of Mack's circular economy initiatives.
REMACK was founded in 1975 in Lewisberry, Penn., and moved to a 75,000-square-foot facility in Middletown, Penn., in 1980. In 2009, REMACK expanded operations with a second facility in Charlotte, N.C.

"Every REMACK component represents our commitment to quality and sustainability," says Rick Cape, remanufactured technical product manager for Mack. "Our highly trained technicians, with a average of over 22 years of experience, use advanced technologies like electromagnetic crack detection, precision CNC machining and dynamic testing to ensure each remanufactured part meets the same exacting standards as new parts. This meticulous process not only guarantees reliability for our customers but also maximizes the lifecycle of valuable materials."
REMACK's environmental achievements include:
- Certified landfill-free status according to strict environmental directives, ensuring virtually all materials are recycled or repurposed.
- Supporting the generation of renewable energy for 100% of its electricity demand, demonstrating a commitment to clean energy operations.
- Maintaining a comprehensive recycling program that encompasses everything from metal components to packaging materials.
The division remanufactures more than 25 different product lines, including engines, transmissions, coolant pumps and NOx sensors. It also remanufactures advanced components such as Mack mDRIVE Automated Manual Transmissions, DEF pumps and engine control units.
Each component undergoes rigorous inspection, cleaning, remanufacturing and testing using more than 1,800 precision gauges calibrated to National Institute of Standards and Technology criteria.
"What sets REMACK apart is our philosophy of keeping matched component sets together throughout the remanufacturing process," Cape says. "These parts have been machined together originally and maintaining that synergy ensures optimal fit and performance while reducing waste. When replacement is necessary, we use 100% new pure Mack parts, including all bearings, seals and gaskets."
