Fullbay’s annual, comprehensive State of Heavy-Duty Repair Report is once again now open for survey participation.

The report explores and benchmarks the health of the industry by seeking input on topics such as inventory and parts management, mobile services, shop finances, service offerings, and technician efficiency and compensation.

The survey is open through Sept. 30, and the 2026–2027 full report will be available as a free download in early 2027.

Fullbay says the confidential survey allows shop owners, managers, technicians and other industry professionals to share their experiences and observations about issues impacting their businesses. Responses will be aggregated and analyzed to identify practical benchmarks and trends that enable smarter, data-informed decisions for repair operations, fleets, and industry partners.

The resulting report provides unmatched insights into the maintenance of heavy-duty equipment and reflects input from independent and internal shops that service Class 6–8 vehicles, agricultural machinery, emergency vehicles, construction equipment, heavy machinery, commercial fleets and more.

“As the industry continues to navigate rapid change and technological advances, clear benchmarks matter more than ever,” says Trent Broberg, CEO of Fullbay. “Our survey cuts through the noise on services, staffing, and profitability, as well as explores where AI is adding real value and becoming a significant factor in shops. Our end goal is to equip our community with practical, data-backed intel that turns insight into action.”

Based on data from more than 3,400 repair shops, last year’s sixth annual State of Heavy-Duty Repair Report highlighted several key findings, including:

  • Staffing remains tight: 57% of shops are understaffed, and while a third can hire a technician in 2-4 weeks, 5% need over 12 months.
  • AI adoption is emerging but limited: 21% of shops implemented AI in the last year, while 65% don’t use it. Current uses center on diagnostics (19%) and customer service/communications (18%).
  • Incentives are common but underleveraged for recruiting: 63% offer technician bonuses, yet only 19% use referral bonuses when hiring.
  • Financial momentum improved: Nearly two-thirds say 2025 outperformed 2024, up from 52% reporting year-over-year gains in the prior survey.
  • 2026 outlook pressures: Top concerns are evenly split between hiring qualified technicians and rising operational expenses (43% each).
