ASE, EPA holding free inspection guidance webinar

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is hosting a free webinar next week titled “Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) Programs.”

The webinar is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

During the webinar, ASE states Joe Winkelmann from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Transportation and Air Quality will provide an overview of vehicle inspection and maintenance (I/M) programs nationally.

Automotive service professionals are integral to I/M programs. I/M is the periodic inspection of the emissions control systems of cars and trucks. The goal of I/M programs across the country is the same: identify and repair high-emitting vehicles to improve air quality in certain areas of concern.

Across the country over 60 million vehicles are tested annually in I/M programs, and about 5 percent (or over three million vehicles) initially fail testing. However, more than 75 percent of those vehicles that failed were successfully repaired and are now operating with reduced emissions. This session will also include a segment for audience questions and answers, ASE says.

Participants in this webinar will receive a certificate of attendance for this live session. ASE says participants should allow one week for automatic email delivery of the certificate.

After registering, a confirmation email will be sent containing information about joining the webinar. Those who are not sure if they can attend are encouraged to register as they will receive a follow-up email with details on how to attend a recorded session, if available. Access to recorded sessions is reserved for those who register for the live event, ASE adds.
